ABSTRACT
yaml2script is a Python script that extracts shell scripts from a GitLab CI/CD configuration file (.gitlab-ci.yml) and allows users to test/analyze them with tools like shellcheck, pycodestyle, or pylint. It handles YAML anchors and GitLab CI's 'extends' functionality, enabling seamless extraction of scripts from complex configuration files; support for the custom '!reference' YAML tag is limited to references within the same file. This tool is useful for automated testing, security audits, code quality improvement, and integration with CI/CD pipelines. It can be installed via pipx and supports various optional dependencies for checking code quality. The tool has several sub-commands, including "extract", "check", "all", and "version", and can be integrated with pre-commit for automated testing and analysis. The "all" sub-command supports checking multiple configuration files in a single invocation.
