ABSTRACT
After having discussed the challenges of implementing observability using traditional operational monitoring practices and how OpenTelemetry proposes a different approach to solve those, it is finally time to dive into the project fundamentals. In this chapter, we’ll cover key concepts that will help the reader get a general grasp of the project structure and how different OpenTelemetry components relate to each other. We will then go through details of semantic conventions, as one of the key cross-signal aspects of portable, high-quality telemetry data.
