Title: Lead (electronics) Authors: Venue: Wikipedia Year: unknown Canonical: wiki:lead-electronics URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_(electronics) Collector: wikipedia OA: true ABSTRACT In electronics, a lead or pin is a piece of metal that is used to transmit electricity to or from a component of a circuit or an external tool, by connecting something else to its terminal. This can be used to transfer power and/or communicate information. The lead or pin can take various shapes: in through-hole technology it is a length of wire, in surface-mount technology it is a pad, in a ball grid array it is a ball/bump, for a multimeter or similar device it is a test probe, and in fields such as electrocardiography it is an electrode. A pin fin heat sink can be used to avoid overheating.
